11/7/08
Couldn't pass up a day with perfect conditions, so
out I go...Caught about a dozen trout all between
"14 and "18 on the way to my spots. Caught a few
Reds on Paddle Tails and decided to see how the
topwater bite was. Well it turned out to be pretty good, and
i was lucky enough to get
an over slot, spotty Red on my third cast.

All in
all not a bad day. |
| 8/25/08
Fished the last hour of the out going tide and
caught a 30+" Red and a 23" Flounder, caught on a 1/8 oz
Standup jig. |
| 8/14/08 Left Sisters Creek ramp at 7am and had
caught my first Red in 15 minutes, all 8” of him
with 2 spots. Then I didn’t catch anything but trout
for the next 2 hours. As the tide was going to turn
soon, I decided to go to the other side of the ICW.
While heading that way
a pod of Porpoise with 4 babies were feeding. The
babies came to give me the once over. They were
really cute. In the middle of this feeding frenzy
was an oyster bar I just could not pass by without
casting. Previous experience has proven this to be a
fruitless endeavor when Porpoises are around.
Wonders upon wonders I caught 7, 14” trout, one on
every cast with the dolphin within 15 yards of me.
So off to the other side I go and hit some of my
favorite spots but, no action. Then I got to my NEW
favorite spot and BAM. The drag started screaming
and I inserted the stake out pole. After a minute or two,
I looked at the reel. UH OH only ten feet of braid
before backing. So I pulled the SOP out and chased
down the fish using pedal power. That was one hard
fighting 31" monster. Off to find another, as I approach a
corner I see a flash of Red fish. It was 25” and
released, home I went with a smile on my face. |
6/17/08 Sisters Creek
It was a very pretty morning and there was no way I
was going to stay home even though it was high tide.
I had the fishing itch!
Normally I can't catch a decent fish when the tide
is high, but I thought I would give it a try. Now
for a Game Plan... Hmm.. I previously fished the
high tide like I fish the low and never had much
luck. So today I went out there thinking like a big
FAT LAZY fish... I am hungry and don't want to
swim much, so where do I go. There is a nice little
point where I can hangout and grab a meal as it
swims by. That was my general school of thought
for the day and this is what happened.
The
first fish was 29", the second was 27" and he
thought he was a thirty fiver. He fought like he was
going to be eaten. He was caught in a creek mouth
and took off like crazy multiple times. Once he was
headed around the corner and luckily the yak was
pointed in the right direction, after he had spun me
around twice, I used the pedals (Hobie) to fight the
fish. THAT was COOL! He was deeply hooked so I
HAPPILY cut the line and sent him on his merry way.
That fish gave me the best fight I had ever had with
a Redfish up until then. |
6/2/08 Sisters Creek
Fished the last of the outgoing tide and
caught NOTHING! I was determined to catch a fish and
was willing to fight the weather to do it. So I
stayed out there even though I saw the Storm coming.
So I paddled to a flat that I knew would be dry when
I got there. This is a flat that separates two
deeper bodies of water. I sat there and waited for a
little more water to come in. It got to about 3
inches deep and I could not go anywhere but, here
comes a nice Red headed right for me. So I threw my
trusty DOA Cal at him and he slammed it. Great fight
in a few inches of water. He measured 25".
I released him just in time to hunker down in my
plastic bag style rain coat after I laid down my
graphite lightning rods. For the first few minutes
of the storm sleet came down. I sure am glad it
wasn't hail! It rained through the best time to fish
and by the time it was over there was plenty of
water to leave. |
5/13/08
Sisters Creek
I got out before the wind kicked up and boy did it ever kick
up! I caught a bunch of tiny trout. There was not a keeper
in the bunch. Also landed 2 flounder, both were about 15".
All fish swam away to be had another day. |
5/7/08 Palm Valley
Went out at
4:30. the fishing was slow and the tide was not
moving very much. Had a few bites but no hookups
until the sun came up. Then I caught 6 Trout between
18" and 20" in a half an hour all on top water. The
sun started getting hot and I realized that I had
lost my Tilley Hat. So, I left early and went back
looking for it (they float) For some strange reason
and for the first time ever, I had put my fishing
license, Drivers license and a credit card in its
pocket. I did not find it so I rushed home to cancel
the credit card. There was a message on my answering
machine at home. Amazingly it was the FWC and they
had a phone number for me to call to go rescue my
hat. James had found my hat while doing dock work.
It was the second one he had found. Back out to Palm
Valley I go and I met James at the job site. I gave
him a reward and thanked him profusely. As soon as
this wind dies down, look for at least 3 reports a
week. |
| 4/25/08 Beach Blvd. ICW Caught
a small, but legal slam in 75 minutes. the trout was
15.25 inches. I did not measure the others.
A few more flounder and trout showed up but when the
tide turned, the fishing turned off. All fish were
caught using DOA Cal, Silver Mullet soaked in Gulp
Juice on a 1/16 oz Missouri jig head. |
12/4/07 Sisters Creek
Must have caught 60, 14 7/8" trout and
nothing else. Trout were fun on a light rod. |
12/1/07 Beach Blvd. ICW
Fished a few hours and caught a few rats
and a slot Red, 3 Flounder of which the largest was only 18"
and about 10 small trout. |
11/21/07 Beach Blvd ICW
Just caught a few slot Reds and a few
Flounder |
11/20/07 Sisters Creek
It was a beautiful day with very little
wind. Caught 8 Reds to 20", Could have caught all the trout I wanted
but they were small. |
11/19/07 Beach Blvd ICW
Caught 6 Reds, 4 rats, 2 slots, and 3
flounder between 13" and 20" |
11/6/07 Sisters Creek
Went out for a few hours to test the new
sail I made. It still needs some tweaking! But I did catch a half
dozen Rat Reds and a few trout. |
10/26/07 Sisters Creek
Caught 3 flounder up to 20"and a bunch of 15"ish trout and 1
large rat Red. The reds did not seem to be in their normal
locations. I caught this one when I saw shrimp being
attacked by what I thought was a flounder. I paddled over
and threw my Cal Tail in and got an immediate hit. |
